Our COVID-19 Response

To keep our community as safe as possible, we have gathered recommendations from medical professionals, the Centers for Disease Control, and Central District Health to develop our COVID-19 response. See what measures we are taking to keep our students, families, and faculty safe.

Cleaning Procedures

  • Classroom surfaces and playground toys/equipment cleaned and sanitized after each use using EPA-registered disinfectant
  • High-touch surfaces (light switches and doorknobs) cleaned and sanitized often
  • Child nap blankets laundered daily
  • Learning materials removed that cannot be sanitized (pillows and stuffed animals)
  • Hand washing takes place frequently throughout the day with soap and water for 20 seconds
  • Hand sanitizer dispensers installed at classroom entrances
  • Children and staff wash hands upon arrival and departure, before and after meals, after toileting, and after touching face
  • Mandatory use of disposable containers and utensils
  • Pre-cut fruits and vegetables provided for snack time by the school in disposable containers
  • Staff supplied with clean gloves, face masks, and any other cleaning materials/PPE required

Safety Precautions

  • Children and staff temperature screened daily before entering facility and during lunch
  • Those with a fever of 100.40 (38.00C) or above or exhibiting other signs of illness (cough, shortness of breath, recent loss of smell or taste, trouble breathing, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, new confusion, bluish lips or face) will not be permitted to enter facility
  • Sick individuals will be sent home, sick children isolated while awaiting pick up
  • Illness policy updated to include 72 hour isolation period for all sick children and staff
  • Parent shall immediately notify Lakewood Montessori if child traveled outside of Idaho, had prolonged close contact with person suspected of having COVID-19 or tested positive within past 14 days.
  • Staff or children knowingly exposed to COVID-19 will be instructed to self-quarantine for 14 days
  • Staff and children exhibiting symptoms consistent with COVID-19 will not be permitted to return to the facility until symptom free and at least 10 days have passed since positive test result or when symptoms first appeared
  • Lakewood will notify parents and co-workers if child or staff member tests positive for COVID-19 without disclosing infected person’s identity
  • Possible closure of facility for deep cleaning and disinfection if necessary

School Hours/ Programs

  • AYM hours are temporarily shortened to 8:00-4:30 to support staffing and cleaning/sanitizing considerations
  • Teachers do not move between classrooms: classrooms are staffed to remain self-contained and allow for teachers to take time off if needed
  • Designated drop-off and pick-up locations outside of building
  • Arrival times staggered to limit contact between families
  • Parents permitted in outdoor spaces only
  • PTO meetings, birthday celebrations, and other gatherings take place remotely
  • School events postponed indefinitely

Social Distancing

  • Reduced class sizes
  • Classroom groups kept separate
  • Siblings grouped into same classes by level
  • Classrooms accessed through exterior doors only
  • No movement of teachers or children between classrooms
  • Staggered playground times, no shared spaces between classes
  • Common areas closed (except playground)
  • Activities moved outside whenever possible

Tours & Enrollment

  • In-person tours postponed indefinitely
  • Virtual tours conducted after hours to remove contact between admin and children/teachers
  • New parent orientation over Zoom with classroom teacher
  • New siblings enrolled in same class
